Starting a run

Where should I start?

Step into a queue circle in the lobby, choose how many players can join, then select Farmhouse and Normal. Collect hay, use Feed at the barn's cow window to turn it into Cash, and buy an affordable upgrade for the problem slowing you down. Inspect the hay you expose while looking for the Needle.

Start a first run.

Open Search For The Needle beginner guide →

Can I play alone?

Yes. You can start a solo run or join a multiplayer queue. Choose the chapter and mode your group intends to play before starting. How quickly a group finishes depends on its equipment and how the players divide the work. The September 20, 2026 setup did not become harder when more players joined. Exposed Gems were shared, so track your own pickups when comparing solo and group earnings.

How can I select lobby buttons on macOS?

Backslash toggles UI Navigation in the lobby. Turn it on, move the visible focus outline with the arrow keys, and press Return to activate the highlighted button. Check its label before confirming a shop option.

Historical client observation (2026-10-02; Signed-in macOS Roblox native-client lobby: Backslash enables UI Navigation, arrow keys select focus, and Return activates Play, Claim or Codes. This does not cover other devices, character controls, redemption results, purchases, reward delivery or every popup.). This observation is not verified for the current game version.

Collecting hay and finding the Needle

Can I hold the collection button from the start?

On PC, click the left mouse button for each hand collection at first. Buy Hand Hold to keep the button down. Hold does not add bag capacity. Hand Speed speeds up collection; it does not change walking speed. If you switch to a Pitchfork, check its own Hold upgrade; Hand Hold does not buy it for the new tool.

Check each tool's upgrades.

Why has hay stopped entering my bag?

Check whether the bag is full. If it is, sell hay and confirm that the bag count drops and Cash increases. If the bag has room, check your tool's heat or cooldown and aim at hay that remains within reach.

If the Vacuum overheats, let it cool or switch to another tool you own. Check that your bag count rises when you resume collecting.

Why does my Vacuum's heat stay high after I stop early?

Under the September 2026 cooling rule, stopping before overheating does not start the cooldown. Once the Vacuum overheats, it cools and becomes usable again. Cooling upgrades shorten that recovery; Runtime lets you collect longer before it. Check the heat state rather than expecting every release of the button to lower it.

Read Vacuum heat and upgrades.

The haystack looks unchanged. Is it still collecting?

Watch the bag count and a selling trip rather than judging only the pile's outline. Digging down inside a stack can remove inner hay while the outside still looks large. If the count does not rise, check capacity, heat, and whether your aim reaches remaining hay. If hay still will not enter your bag, record the tool, bag count, and heat shown when it happens.

Chapter 2: Basement

Why are the papers marked X, and why does the sign's number fail?

Keep checking the floor papers until you find the one with four digits. X papers do not supply a keypad code. Use the numbered paper from your run, in the order printed; a number on a wall sign or in another player's video is not your code source. If you picked up the numbered paper without reading it, check your inventory for the clue.

Chapter 3: Ranch

Why does my Vacuum do zero damage to the Hay Golem?

In the Permanent Vacuum example, aim at the current weak-point marker during its opening and check whether the tool has overheated. A separate September 27, 2026 launch fault also left some Golems motionless and unable to take damage. If the target and heat checks fail, record the Boss state and follow the detailed checks below.

What do I press during Break Free?

Wait until the moving ring is inside the green zone, then click or press the letter currently displayed. Read each new cue separately. GOOD! and PERFECT! advance the recorded attempt’s progress dots; continue until YOU’RE FREE! and the prompt disappears. Too early means press later on the next cue; Too late! means press before the ring leaves green. Do not use a fixed F, X, Z sequence.

Tools and upgrades

Why can't I match a 30-second run after maxing my chapter upgrades?

Chapter upgrades are only part of that setup. Very short runs can also use maxed pets and accessories, The Chosen One, and permanent passes. Basement adds its three puzzles to the search, so allow for those tasks when comparing it with Farmhouse. Compare those starting conditions before copying an upgrade order. Buying the same equipment still does not guarantee the same time or Needle position.

What is an upgrade order to try with a four-player Permanent Vacuum team?

One four-player route starts with four Vacuum Power upgrades, followed by five Dynamite Power upgrades. Consider Cow levels and pet accessories as well when comparing times. Use it as a route for that equipment setup; if your Vacuum overheats or your bag fills, handle that interruption instead of ignoring it to copy the order.

Adapt upgrades to the setup you have.

Open Upgrades and tools in Search For The Needle →

What upgrade route can I try without Game Passes?

With Ultimate Farmer and Pig, one four-player route to try without Game Passes is to buy Pitchfork, upgrade it a little, then obtain Dynamite and max Power before Speed. This route was suggested on September 30, 2026. Continue upgrading Pitchfork afterward. If you can afford a Vacuum during the run, compare it with your class and existing tools before buying. The suggested order applies to that setup; it comes with no completion-time guarantee.

Compare tool and upgrade choices.

Open Upgrades and tools in Search For The Needle →

Why do older videos recommend different tools or upgrade values?

Updates can change the comparison: Pitchfork was slightly nerfed on September 7, 2026, and the September 27 changes buffed the lobby Bag upgrade bought with Gems, alongside other upgrades. Class, pet, and permanent products also affect a run. Read the current tool and upgrade cards, then choose around the interruptions you actually encounter.

Which pass is useful for my goal?

In setup discussions, GP or GPs means Game Pass or Game Passes. Infinite Bag addresses repeated selling trips caused by capacity. A 2x Gems offer concerns Gems farming. Cow needs pet upgrades as well as ownership, and Permanent Vacuum fits a Vacuum build such as Hoover's. Read the current offer and the rest of the setup before spending; a pass that solves one interruption may leave your main problem unchanged.

Compare tool access and upgrades and read pet purchases.

Open Upgrades and tools in Search For The Needle →

Which upgrade should I buy next?

Watch one trip from collecting hay to selling it. If gathering is slow, inspect the upgrades for the tool you use. If you keep filling the bag and returning to sell, inspect its capacity. If the Vacuum spends too much time overheated, look at Cooling and Runtime. Compare the current cost with your Cash, buy one useful improvement, and see whether that interruption is reduced.

Does upgrading Dynamite Power after throwing TNT affect that explosion?

Under the September 27, 2026 rule, a Power upgrade bought before the thrown TNT exploded could affect that explosion, even when its visual effect did not change. Judge the collection result separately from the explosion image. To avoid timing uncertainty in your route, buy the intended upgrade before the next throw.

Does Drone Swarm mean I can buy three ordinary Drones?

Drone Specialist's Swarm is a chance effect when you or your Drone collects hay. It temporarily summons three Drones to help collect. That temporary effect is separate from buying and deploying an ordinary Drone; use the selected class's card for its trigger.

How does Hard Farmhouse differ from Normal?

Hard has more hay and more spawned Gems to collect. It can suit a sustained farming setup, but the extra collection work also affects the run's duration. Compare the Gems gained and time spent with your own equipment before treating Hard as the better return per minute. Ranch adds parts, repairs, and a Boss fight; include that work when comparing it with Farmhouse.

Is solo Hard Farmhouse a good way to farm Gems?

It is a route to try when your equipment can sustain a long collection session. Collect hay, pick up the exposed Gems, then hand in the Needle and finish the chapter. Prospector, Ultimate Farmer, and The Chosen One are options to compare for this farming goal. Use the class and tools you already have before spending on a new setup, and compare the Gems gained with the time you actually took.

Can I collect hay while away from the keyboard?

A PC auto-clicking setup can use Vacuum with Prospector while positioned on the haystack. It still needs equipment that can sustain collection. Return to collect the exposed Gems yourself and complete the Needle handoff. This is a convenience setup for a long collection session; compare its actual returns with active runs before using it for your farming goal.

Is an auto-clicker the same as a farming macro?

An auto-clicker repeats clicks; a macro replays recorded actions. The Vacuum and Prospector auto-clicking setup still needs you to return for exposed Gems and the Needle handoff. A recorded route also depends on your class, equipment, and actions in the run. Try it while you can watch the result before relying on it for a full session.

Plan collection and pickups separately.

Open Gems and currencies in Search For The Needle →

Does Prospector's bonus use up the map's Gem allowance?

Prospector's bonus does not count toward the map's naturally spawned Gem allowance. Collect the exposed Gems and check your total. Value upgrades and other rewards also affect your balance, so that balance is not a count of Gem objects picked up.

Track Gem pickups, value, and rewards.

This separates the class bonus from naturally spawned map Gems; it does not establish an unlimited bonus or a separate bonus cap.

Open Gems and currencies in Search For The Needle →

Does Gem Value affect Prospector's direct bonus?

Yes. Under the September 2026 rule, its direct reward uses the same Gem amount as clicking an exposed Gem with your setup. That bonus is a chance effect, so increasing value does not make it trigger on every click. Check your value upgrade, boosts, and balance change without copying another player's fixed amount.

How does the October 2026 Chroma event reward longer runs?

The event's completion reward ranges from 100 to 750 Chroma currency, with longer runs awarding more within that range. The same minimum and maximum apply to Normal and Hard. More currency from one long run does not automatically mean more currency per minute; compare both the reward and the run's duration.

Can I leave Farmhouse during the ending cutscene and keep the reward?

Under the September 2026 reward rule, you could leave after handing in the Needle and starting the ending, keeping the Gems and Win. Check your credited reward before leaving. This applies after the handoff, not while the Needle task is still unfinished.

Why do I get a confirmation before rerolling a rare class?

Where can I see how many class rolls I have made?

If your The Chosen One roll has a notification in the community's rare-rolls channel, match your player name and read its Total Rolls field. That notification records the reported roll. Does Ultimate Farmer include the colored special effects on other class cards?

Ultimate Farmer includes the gray or white base passives from other class cards, rather than their colored special effects. It also has its own Golden Harvest effect, which boosted walking speed, tool speed, and selling value in September 2026. Read its own card for the effect's current conditions; inheriting another class's base passive does not give you that class's special skill.

Why does a Hoover-related half-price bonus still show a full price?

The October 2, 2026 price issue was a display bug: the half-price effect was still applying even though the label did not show it. For a purchase you intend to make, check the item, selected bonus, and amount charged. Record those if the actual deduction also differs; the old label issue does not explain every payment problem.

Will Auto Roll skip The Chosen One if my target is Ultimate Farmer?

Under the September 30 and October 1, 2026 rule, Auto Roll stops at the chosen target or a rarer class. An Ultimate Farmer target therefore keeps a new The Chosen One result. Starting another roll in the chosen slot can still replace the class it currently holds.

Check Auto Roll and class selection.

Should I keep Hoover or Ultimate Farmer?

For speedruns built around a Permanent Vacuum, Hoover is the class to compare first. Ultimate Farmer is the alternative for longer hay farming or a setup without that pass. Read their current cards alongside the tools you will use before replacing a class you already have.

Compare classes for your equipment.

Open Classes in Search For The Needle →

Should I spend a fixed amount of Gems to guarantee Ultimate Farmer?

A Gems budget is a spending limit, not a guaranteed class. Spin gives random results, and the amount someone else spent does not establish what your next roll will produce. Check the current roll price and Class Luck, and keep a class you still need before rolling in another slot.

How do multiple 2x Class Luck boosts stack?

The September 2026 class-luck rule starts at 1x and adds 1x for each 2x boost. One boost gives 2x, two give 3x, and three give 4x. Check the current multiplier in your Classes menu before rolling. Use this multiplier for class rolls; it is not a Needle search bonus.

Is 2x Class Luck permanent or timed?

The 2x Class Luck Game Pass is the permanent offer. A timed Class Luck boost, such as one listed as a code reward, lasts for its stated duration. Its countdown continues during a chapter, so plan your rolls while the boost is active. Check whether you are buying the pass or claiming a temporary boost, and read the multiplier and any timer before rolling.

Is a phone guaranteed to show the Watch Ad option for Class Luck?

No. The option has appeared on PC as well as mobile, and some mobile accounts have not shown it. Use Watch Ad when your menu offers it and read that offer's reward. A missing button does not establish a fixed return time, so keep those possible boosts out of a guaranteed rolling budget.

Can I keep stacking Luck from Watch Ad without a limit?

The September 17, 2026 ad offer allowed Luck to stack up to 2x. Read the active multiplier after receiving an ad reward, particularly if you also use a Game Pass or timed boost. The ad offer's limit is not a reason to treat every Class Luck product as the same purchase.

Do The Chosen One's base passives stack when several teammates use it?

The September 2026 multiplayer rule did not stack those base passives simply because another teammate also used the class. A special team effect has its own conditions, so read that part of the card separately before multiplying a bonus by your party size.

Clans

Does each Clan member receive a different number of weekly chests?

The Clan's members receive the same chest count. That count depends on the Tokens the whole Clan earns from quests throughout the week, rather than only your personal contribution. Check the Clan's weekly progress and claim state to see the current reward.

The September 20, 2026 quest rewards were intended for weekly claiming. Immediate chest payouts on completing a quest were a bug, so check the weekly claim state before expecting that old payout.
