Start with a Normal Farmhouse run. Collect hay from the large pile, feed it to the cow to earn Cash, and spend that Cash on the part of the job that is slowing you down. Keep searching as you collect. When you find the Needle, pick it up, equip it, and take it to the Farmer. Use your hands for the first load; buy tools with Cash earned during the run.
Start a Normal Farmhouse run
In the lobby, go to the chapter queue and choose Farmhouse on Normal. Start the run through the options shown there. Once you arrive, listen to the Farmer's request to find his Needle, then locate the big haystack.
Before you collect your first load, find the cow at the barn window. The Feed interaction is where you hand over hay for Cash. Also find the barn's tool shop and its bag upgrade. Knowing where these are saves you from wandering around with a full bag while trying to work out how to sell.
Choose a place on the pile that you can reach again easily from the cow. Start collecting from that face and watch the bag counter. Keep the route to Feed easy to retrace when the bag fills.
Collect your first load and sell it
On PC, aim at hay within reach and click the left mouse button to collect it. At the start, click for each handful; the Hold upgrade lets you keep the button down later. Watch the amount in your bag rise. That counter is a better first check than the overall shape of the haystack: a few handfuls can be hard to spot in such a large pile.
When the bag reaches its limit, return to the cow at the barn window and use Feed. Check that the amount in your bag drops and your Cash rises. Go back to the pile and collect again. Being able to collect after the sale confirms that you have made room in the bag.
Do not keep trying the same collection action when the bag is already full. More powerful tools will still run into a carrying limit, so learning this trip now will help when you buy them later.
Take rainbow hay when you uncover it nearby. It sells for more than ordinary hay and can help pay for your next upgrade. If you cannot see any, keep collecting ordinary hay. Walking around the whole farm looking for rainbow pieces leaves you without a new load to sell.
You may also uncover Gems. Pick them up when they appear, but keep an eye on which balance changes. Gems are separate from Cash. Collecting a Gem does not finish the Farmer's Needle request, and a shiny object in the pile is not enough to confirm that you have found the target.
Spend Cash on the problem you can see
Before you spend your first Cash, look at what slowed the last load. Did gathering take most of the time, or did the bag fill so quickly that you were always walking back to the cow? On PC, press Tab to open the tool upgrade menu and inspect your hand upgrades. For more carrying space, visit Upgrade Bag in the barn. Compare the displayed price with your Cash before buying.
The hand upgrades do different jobs. Speed makes collection faster. Grasp increases the amount gathered with each action. With Hold, you can keep the left mouse button down to collect. Hold does not increase your bag's capacity, and the hand's Speed upgrade does not make your character walk faster.
| What is slowing you down? | Upgrade to inspect | What to check after buying |
|---|---|---|
| Gathering each load takes too long. | Hand Speed or Grasp. | Collection is faster or each action adds more hay. |
| Repeating the hand action is awkward on PC. | Hand Hold. | You can hold the left mouse button to keep collecting. |
| You fill the bag almost immediately. | Upgrade Bag in the barn. | The displayed capacity is higher and you can collect a larger load. |
You do not need to buy every upgrade before making another trip. Buy an affordable improvement that addresses the last problem, then try it on the hay. If collecting becomes faster but you now hit the bag limit almost at once, capacity is the next useful thing to inspect.
Add a tool when it helps your loop
The barn's shop offers tools such as Pitchfork, Dynamite, and Vacuum. Save the Cash from selling hay to buy them. They expand the ways you clear the pile, but finding the Needle does not require you to own all of them or finish every tool upgrade.
Pitchfork is an early option for collecting more hay with a swing. After buying it, return to your work area and use it on the pile. Check how quickly the bag fills before spending more on its gathering upgrades. A stronger swing is useful, but a small bag can turn that extra collection into another immediate trip to the cow.
Dynamite clears hay in a blast and has a cooldown. Use it on the haystack, then keep collecting with a tool you already own while it becomes available again. You do not have to stand still waiting for another blast if your hand or Pitchfork can keep working.
Vacuum can collect hay continuously, but it stops if it overheats. Let it cool when that happens. A cooling break is a good time to sell a load or switch to an available tool.
Search while you clear the hay
As you collect, check the newly exposed hay for the Needle. Work through the hay in front of you, then look at the area you have opened before moving farther in. Adjust your aim when you have cleared the patch you were using. Staying on an empty patch will not collect a new load.
The Needle has no fixed spot that you can copy from a tutorial. A hole shown in someone else's run is not a guaranteed route to yours. Keep exposing hay and looking for the actual item rather than trying to reproduce the exact shape of a video's excavation.
You also do not need to empty the whole stack before noticing the Needle. If you see it while clearing a smaller area, stop collecting unrelated hay and pick it up. Buying a better tool is useful when collection is slow; it is not a gate you must pass before the Needle can be found.
Do not judge the run only by whether the entire pile looks much smaller. Check whether hay is entering the bag, whether a sale adds Cash, and whether a bought upgrade changes your collection action. These signs tell you that the loop is working even when the large stack makes each individual change look small.
When something stops working, check the immediate cause before buying another upgrade.
| What you notice | What to check or do |
|---|---|
| Collection stops and the bag is at its limit. | Go to the cow and Feed the hay, then return with room to collect. |
| The bag has room, but you are aiming at a cleared patch. | Move your aim to hay that remains within reach. |
| Vacuum overheats and stops. | Let it cool; sell hay or use another owned tool during the break. |
| You cannot find rainbow hay. | Gather ordinary hay and keep the selling loop moving. |
| A shiny pickup increases Gems. | Keep searching for the Needle; the Gem is a separate pickup. |
There is no fixed number of sales to finish before you can find the Needle. Keep checking the area you uncover, even if you have enough Cash for another upgrade. Once the target is visible, you can collect it and finish the handoff.
Pick up the Needle and return to the Farmer
Once you spot the actual Needle, pick it up before leaving the haystack. Equip the Needle, then return to the Farmer who gave you the task. Use the game's interaction prompt to give it to him. Being near the object in the hay is not the same as carrying it back.
Check that the Farmer acknowledges the Needle. His dialogue then moves on to the promised payment and the next part of the story. Cash from selling hay and a higher Gems balance do not confirm this handoff.
After he accepts the Needle, follow the Farmer as the dialogue continues.
For the full ending and chapter completion checks, continue with the Farmhouse walkthrough. If you can already collect and sell but are struggling to spot the target, use the Needle search guide.
