Search For The Needle Chapter 1: Farmhouse walkthrough

Find the Needle in Farmhouse, equip it for the Farmer, and follow the cellar ending. Includes the collection loop, handoff checks, and fixes for a stalled search.

On the Page

Finish Farmhouse by finding the Needle in the haystack, picking it up, and giving it to the Farmer. Then follow him to the Basement entrance and let the ending play. Collecting and selling hay helps you reach the Needle, but the chapter continues after you find it.

These steps cover a Normal Farmhouse run. If you already have the Needle, go straight to the handoff; you do not need to finish buying tools or clear the remaining hay first.

1. Enter Farmhouse and find the places you will use

In the lobby, go to the chapter queue and start Farmhouse on Normal. When you arrive, the Farmer sets you the job of finding a Needle in the huge haystack. That haystack is where the search begins.

Find the cow at the barn window with the Feed interaction. You will return here to sell the hay in your bag. Inside the barn, locate the tool shop and Upgrade Bag. Return to these upgrades if gathering is slow or the bag fills too quickly.

Also take note of where the Farmer is standing. He is the person you return to after picking up the Needle. The cow takes your hay during the search; the Farmer takes the chapter's target item.

The locked Basement entrance belongs to the later part of this route. Start with the haystack rather than trying to open that entrance or find a Basement Key around the farm. Finding the Needle and returning it to the Farmer advances the story toward the cellar.

The Farmer promises $1,000 for the job. Treat that as the offer in his opening dialogue. The Cash available for tools during your search comes from selling hay, so plan purchases around the balance you actually have.

2. Keep the search moving through the haystack

On PC, aim at reachable hay and click the left mouse button to collect it. Check that the amount in your bag rises. When the bag is full, go to the cow and use Feed, then return to the pile with space for another load. Check that the sale adds Cash and frees carrying space.

On PC, press Tab to open the tool upgrade menu. Buy an affordable improvement when gathering is slow, or visit Upgrade Bag in the barn when you keep filling the bag before making much progress. Read the current menu price before spending. Use those purchases to keep collecting and selling. You can pick up the Needle as soon as you find it, whatever tools you own.

Pitchfork can gather more hay with a swing. Dynamite clears hay in a blast, then has a cooldown before you can use it again. Vacuum collects continuously and needs cooling if it overheats. Use another tool you already own during those breaks. A full bag still needs a trip to Feed, even when the tool itself is ready to work.

Keep checking the hay you expose as you work. The Needle's position varies between runs, so copying a hole from a video does not give you a fixed location to dig toward. Work through an area you can return to easily, look into what you have opened, and shift your aim to hay that remains.

You can find the Needle before the entire stack is gone. Stop clearing as soon as you notice it and collect the item. A large amount of hay left behind does not mean you must stay and finish cleaning before handing it over.

Rainbow hay and Gems can also appear during the search. Rainbow hay is worth collecting when you see it nearby because it sells for more. Gems are separate pickups. A higher Gems balance does not mean that you have found the Needle, so inspect what you uncovered before leaving for the Farmer.

3. Pick up the Needle and give it to the Farmer

When the Needle is exposed, move to it and use the game's item interaction to pick it up. Seeing it in the hay is not the same as carrying it. Check that you have taken the target before walking away from the pile.

Equip the Needle, then return to the Farmer from the opening of the run. Use the Give interaction to hand him the item. Do not keep selling hay at the cow when the target is already in your possession; the next objective is the Farmer's handoff.

Watch his response. He acknowledges that you found the Needle and starts talking about what comes next. That dialogue confirms the handoff. Cash earned from a sale, a Gem pickup, or the amount of hay removed cannot confirm this stage.

If he has not acknowledged the Needle, check whether you picked it up, equipped it, and completed the interaction with him. If he is already talking about where your money is, the handoff has happened; continue with his route instead of returning to search.

4. Follow the Farmer and finish the chapter ending

After accepting the Needle, the Farmer says that the promised money is elsewhere and asks you to follow him. Stay with him as he heads toward the Basement entrance. The story now uses the entrance that was locked while you were searching.

Follow the path he opens and let the dialogue continue. The Farmer directs you down into the cellar, then pushes you into it. That fall is part of the Farmhouse ending. It does not send you back to find another Needle, and you do not need to return to the barn for a missing tool.

Let the cellar scene finish. The Farmer accepting the Needle and pushing you into the Basement are the story checkpoints to follow. If you are still at the haystack with the Needle in your inventory, you have the item but have not reached this ending yet. Return to the Farmer and continue the handoff before moving on to another chapter.

If rewards appear afterward, check what was credited to your balance. The Farmer's opening $1,000 offer does not tell you what you actually receive.

This cellar scene is the story's transition toward Chapter 2, Basement. Reaching it through this ending does not complete that chapter's search or puzzles. Farmhouse's target was the Needle; Basement has its own Key and escape tasks. If you are continuing there, use the Basement walkthrough for the next chapter's route.

If the search seems to have stopped

Before treating a slow search as a broken run, check your current collection state. A full bag stops you from taking more hay; Feed it to the cow and come back. If Vacuum has overheated, let it cool and use an owned tool or sell a load during the break.

When the pile looks almost empty, look over the exposed ground and any thin patches of hay that remain. The size of the stack is a poor check for whether you have already uncovered the item. Search the area you cleared before deciding that the Needle is missing.

You do not have to follow a video's tool order to recover progress. If you can still collect hay and sell it, keep using that income to address the problem you can see. If you have already collected the Needle, stop troubleshooting the hay and go to the Farmer.
